After forming in Springfield, Mo. in 1990, New World Spirits rapidly developed an impressive following. Relocating to St. Louis in 1991, the band continued to build a strong fan base, consistently packing local and regional clubs. And their long-awaited 1995 independent debut album, Creeperweed, shot to number one in regional sales.

Shortly after, New World Spirits was featured on St. Louis’ then-fledgling alternative rock station 105.7 The Point’s Point-Essential Vol. II compilation CD, and quickly drew attention from Universal Records. After singing the band in 1995, Universal released the band’s major label debut, Fortune Cookie, in late 1996. Its first single, “Bed,” got spins on more than 100 alternative and rock radio stations around the country.

After diverging interests caused the band to split from their contract with Universal in 1997, they recorded and released a final album, Spark, before parting ways in 1999.

While the band remained on hiatus for some time, they reunited in late 2009 to record again and begin rehearsals for what would be their first show in a decade.

2010 marked the beginning of a new chapter for the band, as a resurgent NWS started the year with a sold-out reunion show and the release of a new album, aptly titled “twentyten.”

They’ve since been performing very rare, yet highly successful, shows around St. Louis, while writing and rehearsing new material for an upcoming 2011 release.
