The "second line" has its roots in the traditional jazz funeral processions of New Orleans. Once the dearly departed was buried, the brass band would "cut the body loose" by playing uptempo, joyous music. As they marched, they would be joined by revelers who formed a line alongside and behind the band. This was known as the "second line." The Funky Butt Brass Band was created in 2008 by six musicians who respect and revere the New Orleans brass band tradition. Made up of members of Gumbohead, The Feed, Musica Slesa, Bob Kuban's Everyday People and other St. Louis musical groups, the FBBB brings traditional New Orleans brass tunes and gives them a funky new flavor, in the style of the Dirty Dozen or Rebirth Brass Band. Don't be surprised if you also hear a little Motown, Southern rock, blues and some straight-ahead '70s funk. The Funky Butt Brass Band is guaranteed to get your toes tapping, your feet marching and kick any party into overdrive.
The Voodoo Players is a band dedicated to playing American roots music with a revolving cast of musicians. The genres and players will change from week to week, so check the page each week for line-up announcements.
Alligator Wine is made up of an all-star cast of characters from Lowell, MA music scene. The intention of this outfit is to re-interpret the music of the Grateful Dead and apply our own signature to the music that has so inspired us all over the years. While each member of the project has enjoyed success in various musical genres all over the eastern half of the country, we've all come home to the friends and music that we love. Keep any eye out for Alligator Wine to be hitting the local music scene in the coming months. It's gonna be...... something else!
please enjoy a history of our transport: we started out in just cars and beto's suv thing. then we got the madahoopdie, which was bright orange and had only one seat in it. the passenger had to sit on a white plastic chair. then we moved up to a two seat pick up truck that didn't have a top so if we went to denny's after a show we had to park the truck right by the window and hope for no rain. afterwards we got a trailer, and a top for the truck (we're in business!) complete with a kinda weird couch thing. We went from MO to UT and back in this, with half the band shivering in sleeping bags in the back. we arrived finally in the van, which has lasted I guess eight years now. rad. so far it has a new engine, starter, several belts and 300 new tires. also we've broken both front doors, two armrests, the tv (it started on fire!), the back window shade, one of the windows, and the driver's side door lock. oh and once it got stuck in a car wash.
